Preparing for a shoot - City Chic Theme
I was invited by Jenny Wren Weddings and Events and Hazel Parsons to showcase some of our hire items for a shoot for the Cornwall Wed Meet Up at The Alverton, Truro. The theme was City Chic with a brief of succulents, whites and greys, I’m thinking Classy, Sleek and Elegant.
Succulents are a personal favourite of mine, i’ve used them for rustic weddings in vintage terracotta pots. I have over 60 so to provide them for the shoot was not a problem, but for a City Chic feel i was going to have to repot them into small white ceramic pots. I love adding to our collection of hire items and to be able to offer brides an alternative to the vintage terracotta pots was only a good thing.
Off i went to source my small white ceramic pots ……. Hmmmm, this seemed to be more of a challenge than i would have thought. With the internet at our finger tips and the simple item of a white pot you would think this should be easy. After tweaking my search a few times i eventually found some, which was fantastic, but unfortunately they only had 24!!! After speaking to a very lovely lady who explained that they came from a supplier in Barcelona she was able to confirm that she could get another 36 within two weeks. A fine line when the shoot was scheduled for just under 3 weeks!! Lesson learnt is that often its the simplest of things that are the hardest to find!!
I am very fortunate in having an amazing mum who is a brilliant seamstress and is happy (well, to date) to help with creating table runners and bunting to fit with the themes we have at Stargazey. I was already wanting to offer brides a grey runner to hire so this was perfect timing to use them. To create the feel of city chic I wanted to use the backdrop of the hotels white table linen with a sharp contrast of a charcoal grey which gave a perfect crisp finish.
Succulents bring a modern touch of class, and are a simple and effective way of bringing natural greens into the colour scheme. We choose to group small ceramic white pots with an individual succulent, amongst pretty jars of white flowers. The jars have been personalised with ribbon, this is something a bride can do, with maybe the help of her hen’s, or if time is lacking you can hire jars from us and we can personalise them for you.
The final touch to the tables was a scattering of mercury tea lights to add that little bit of glamour.
When planning your decor an area not to forget to dress is the cake table. A stunning cake was provided by Peboryon, and to not draw attention away from the cake i went for simplicity. Using silver candle sticks, small jam jars with a single flower stem and popped some succulents into the mercury tea light holders - tea lights of course were removed!
Do think beyond your tables when carrying a theme throughout the venue. For City Chic you can dress fireplaces, window ceils and occasional tables with mismatched silver candlesticks and elegant white candles, scatterings of jam jars filled with flowers and add silver framed photos. Why not have photos of the bride and groom growing up, or of family and friends past wedding days.
I’m looking forward to seeing the official photos by Khalile Siddiqui and working further on the inspiration theme of City Chic which I hope to add to the website soon. Click here to see the full shoot
